A Statistical Model for Credit Scoring

چکیده

We derive a model for consumer loan default and credit card expenditure. The default model is based on statistical models for discrete choice, in contrast to the usual procedure of linear discriminant analysis. The model is then extended to incorporate the default probability in a model of expected profit. The technique is applied to a large sample of applications and expenditure from a major credit card company. The nature of the data mandates the use of models of sample selection for estimation. The empirical model for expected profit produces an optimal acceptance rate for card applications which is far higher than the observed rate used by the credit card vendor based on the discriminant analysis. I am grateful to Terry Seaks for valuable comments on an earlier draft of this paper and to Jingbin Cao for his able research assistance. The provider of the data and support for this project has requested anonymity, so I must thank them as such. Their help and support are gratefully acknowledged. Participants in the applied econometrics workshop at New York University also provided useful commentary.

Investigating the missing data effect on credit scoring rule based models: The case of an Iranian bank

Credit risk management is a process in which banks estimate probability of default (PD) for each loan applicant. Data sets of previous loan applicants are built by gathering their data, and these internal data sets are usually completed using external credit bureau’s data and finally used for estimating PD in banks. There is also a continuous interest for bank to use rule based classifiers to b...

Computational time reduction for credit scoring: An integrated approach based on support vector machine and stratified sampling method

With the rapid growth of credit industry, credit scoring model has a great significance to issue a credit card to the applicant with a minimum risk. So credit scoring is very important in financial firm like bans etc. With the previous data, a model is established. From that model is decision is taken whether he will be granted for issuing loans, credit cards or he will be rejected. There are s...

Customer Credit Scoring Method Based on the SVDD Classification Model with Imbalanced Dataset

Customer credit scoring is a typical class of pattern classification problem with imbalanced dataset. A new customer credit scoring method based on the support vector domain description (SVDD) classification model was proposed in this paper. Main techniques of customer credit scoring were reviewed. The SVDD model with imbalanced dataset was analyzed and the predication method of customer credit...

Using data mining to improve assessment of credit worthiness via credit scoring models

Credit scoring model have been developed by banks and researchers to improve the process of assessing credit worthiness during the credit evaluation process. The objective of credit scoring models is to assign credit risk to either a ‘‘good risk’’ group that is likely to repay financial obligation or a ‘‘bad risk’’ group who has high possibility of defaulting on the financial obligation. Constr...
